Redact an image or a screenshot
Drag over anything you do not want seen and it is covered with a black box or coarse pixelation. The original pixels are destroyed on export, so nobody can lift the redaction afterwards. Your image never leaves your device.
Everything happens in your browser

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF · up to 50 MB · never uploaded
A screenshot with your account number truly covered, not behind a blur that can be undone.
What this does NOT do
- It does not find faces or text by itself: you decide what to cover.
- It does not offer blur, on purpose: blur can be reversed, and text has been recovered from blurred screenshots.
- It does not redact what you leave uncovered: check edges, reflections and thumbnails before sharing.
- It does not keep GIF animation: only the first frame is used.
This tool runs entirely inside your browser. There is nothing to upload, so there is nothing we can see, store or lose. You can disconnect from the internet and it will still work.
Frequently asked questions
How do I hide personal details in a screenshot before sharing it?
Drop the screenshot, drag over each detail you want hidden and download the image. Areas are covered with a black box by default, which is the safest option. The downloaded image is regenerated from the pixels, so whatever was under the boxes no longer exists in the file.
Can redaction be removed from an image?
Not from one redacted here: the black box replaces the original pixels, and the downloaded file keeps no copy of them, no layers and no history. The real risk lies in other tools: a light blur can be partly reversed, and some editors keep the original image underneath whatever you draw on it.
Why is there no blur option?
Because blur is a well-understood mathematical operation that can be partly reversed: numbers and text have been recovered from blurred screenshots. A black box destroys the information completely. The pixelation offered here uses large blocks, at least 16 pixels, which works for faces but is not recommended for small text.
Does the redacted image keep the photo’s location or date?
No. The image is exported by drawing it afresh on a canvas, which discards all metadata: GPS location, camera model, date and embedded thumbnails. That matters more than it seems, because some cameras store an unredacted thumbnail inside the file itself.
Can I use it without a mouse?
Yes. On a phone you drag with your finger, and with a keyboard you can use "Add area" to create a box in the centre, select it in the list and move it with the arrow keys, or resize it by holding Shift. Delete or Backspace removes the selected area.
